MWC: Sony Ericsson G700 and G900 based on Symbian

At the Sony Ericsson press conference the manufacturer announced its new series, signed with "G", it's debuting with G700 and G900 models. The manufacturer intends the G series for everyone who is looking at his phone as an essential team-mate for life, or as a personal adjunct.

Both G devices have a 2.4 inch touchscreen, classic design and Symbian UIQ 3.0 operating system. Many have expected that Sony Ericsson comes out with an input system like multitouch, this is unfortunately missing, so both devices have a stylus in their top-right corner.

The size and weight of G700 and G900 are the same, both weighs 99 grams, their dimension is 106x43x13 mm. The advantage of G900 is the 5 megapixel camera, the G700 has only a 3.2 megapixel one, but both have autofocus. On the press conference, the assignees showed that this function works by touching the point on the viewfinder where the user wants to make the focus. If no point pressed, the software recognises the most dominating face (What happens on a Sting concert?), and sets the focus to that.

Of the two only the G900 has WLAN support, it will come in handy because both devices can communicate on UMTS networks but neither of them has HSDPA support. Bluetooth and USB is naturally included, the memory can be extended by M2 card. The two phones of the G series will be delivered to the markets in the 2nd quarter of the year.
