The Finnish manufacturer has announced two Eseries handsets at this year's Mobile World Congress. One of these is Nokia E55, a classical handset, which is targeted at a new range of users instead of the business class: now they are focusing on average users and their everyday needs. The first and most shocking new feature is the redesigned keyboard, which, thanks to the new layout of the QWERTY keyboard (two characters on a key), is almost half in size. This layout might be familiar from BlackBerry Pearl for example, but besides this it provides a great way of entering text.

The Series 60 handset has a rather average size for its category, the phone is 116 x 49 x 9.9 mm large and weighs 98 grams, which should mean that they have indeed used the high-quality materials they have been talking about. The 2.4" display has QVGA resolution, and by displaying 16 million colors, this should be enough for reading emails.

The data communication arsenal is full, besides the quad-band GSM module there is 3G and HSDPA support as well. This latter one is outstandind, as it features 10.2 megabit download and 2 megabit HSUPA upload, which is very impressive. Besides this the device also has a WLAN module, accompanied by Bluetooth 2.0 support and a USB connector.
Onboard memory size is 60 megabytes, this can be expanded up to 16 GB with a microSD(HC) card, the package includes a 2 GB piece. Multimedia fans also have some reasons to be happy about, as besides the 3.2 megapixel camera, capable of recording VGA videos, there is a 3.5 mm headset jack as well, so we can connect any kind of headphone to our Nokia.

The 1500 mAh Li-Po battery, based on the specs, can keep the E55 alive in standby for 28 days on GSM and for 19 days on WCDMA network, but of course this is the absolute maximum, true only if we don't use the phone at all. We still hope that the battery is enough for using the phone for a couple of days, at least that's what we think based on the specified 8 hours of talk time.
