Nokia shows to have a new approach to its E-series phones, based on the product announcements they made in Barcelona. Until now the letter E stood for enterprise, but now they have renamed it to efficiency. Before the announcements Nokia's product manager had some thoughts on the importance of email, he has mentioned BlackBerry, Microsoft's push email technology and synchronization. He told that you don't have to be the president of the United States to need email, and the new E-series phones are made for everyday people who rely on this method of communication. He has emphasized that last year 10 million E-series Nokia phones have been sold.

The new Nokia E55 is very slim, extremely elegant and they have made serious improvements on the keyboard, as it has been cut to about half and now a key has two letters on it. The Symbian phone is told to have a powerful battery, Nokia promises a standby time of a month, but we'll see how will they manage to achieve this on a Symbian phone with a QVGA display that is very slim, so its battery also seems to be a small one... E55 will have an unsubstituted price of 265 euros.

Nokia E75 is the successor of the communicator, with a sliding keyboard and it's told to be made of high-quality materials "that you would expect of an Eseries handset". The Nokia Messaging technology will be shipped onboard the phone. This service will allow us to handle all kinds of email accounts at the same time and it will have a special setup wizard that takes care of all the settings required for the account, so the user won't have to tamper with the POP3/IMAP and SMTP settings and we won't have to remember all the server names and port numbers. The email client has been renewed as well, it now supports HTML and we can edit the attached Office documents. It will be available next month at a price of 375 euros.

Both Nokia handsets have N-Gage support, which means that Nokia, just like Sony Ericsson, tries to bring together its different handset series. N-Gage has never before been available on Finnish E-series models and now both phones will be prepared to have full access to Nokia Ovi services. As for Ovi, it has now been extended with a Store, which lets us download all kinds off applications. We are told that Ovi Store will be an adaptive webstore that knows what the user needs and wants, but it seems to be like any other webshop, and in this category Apple is the absolute leader. Nokia comes closer to the users by launching publish.ovi.com, a site where we can upload anything, the focus being on applications.
We are currently checking out the handsets at the Nokia stand and we'll be coming back soon with the specifications and close-up images.
