More and more Linux-based Nokias expected

Hirdetés

The use of Linux as an operating system is not at all unusual from the Finnish manufacturer, as they have already used it in a number of devices, made especially for web browsing, that have the common property that they cannot be used on conventional GSM and 3G networks. Kari Tuutti, spokesperson for Nokia, has reported that this portfolio is to be extended in the future, as their company believes in the success of Linux. Linux has its popularity mostly because it's open, which is accompanied by being free. According to this, there is a huge mass of developers behind the system, so freely usable software is accessible cheap and in large quantities. Rick Simons, director of finance, also told that opportunities arising from Linux are extremely important for the company and Nokia is already working on its next Linux-based devices. It is not yet known if the planned Linux-based devices will be exclusively Internet tablets, but there might be some mobile phones too amongst them. The Finnish manufacturer has used the interface of Series 60 in its smartphones until now, which has been adopted by other companies too. Internet tablets originally came with Linux-based operating systems because Series 60 didn't support the use of touchscreens, but Series 60 Touch (which is under development) offers a solution for this issue too.
