Nokia has officially announced the WiMAX-enabled edition of their N810 web surfer phone. The new version will be primarily sold in the States, as WiMAX networks are much more widespread there. The advantage of WiMAX is, that it can cover an area of up to 4-5 km large, providing a theoretical maximum download speed of 10 Mbps, a good average being 2-4 Mbps. In other aspects, the device is the same as its predecessor. It doesn't operate on either 3G or 2G networks, web surfing is only available through WiFi/WiMAX, or via Bluetooth, using the phone as a modem. The handset is Linux-based, it has a 4.13" touchscreen with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, it has a webcam, 2 GB internal memory, GPS receiver and a microSD card slot. The QWERTY phone with a size of 128 x 72 x 14 mm, weighing 226 grams, will be available from Summer.
