Android-based Acer A1 in September

Upon acquiring E-TEN, Acer has officially entered the mobile phone market at this year's Mobile World Congress, and additional developments are expected. According to Philippines-based BusinessMirror the manufacturer is expected to launch its first Android smartphone this September, under the name A1, which will of course feature a touchscreen display. There are no exact details regarding the new device, but it's expected to be launched along three other models, C1 being pictured below. The supposition has not been cofirmed by Henry Wang, spokesperson for Taipei-based Acer, or by Marsha Wang, spokesperson for Google. The popularity of the Android platform is in a constant rise, as it's completely free to use for anyone, the development costs being supported by the essential access to Google services. According to CLSA Ltd.'s forecast by the end of 2009 Android could own up to 5% of the smartphone market.
