Exterior
Yes, it's really flat, although Samsung can do slimmer than that, the 15.3 mm of thickness doesn't seem that much slim, but the other two sizes are rather large, so this parameter gets much more emphasized. The shape is elegant, although they didn't put much effort in designing the exterior: it's metal on the front, it's metal on the back, and that's it.
Still, there is a Samsung label and a camera on the case, and I have been hoping that the smart Koreans have come up with such an extra display on the inside that can be seen through aluminum, but not even they can do everything, so there's no external screen and we realize how annoying this is only when we're used to seeing basic info by only having a glance at the phone. They could have put at least a small lamp over here to spice up the desolate landscape, but there's no such thing, so after returning to the phone we just have to keep opening it up to check if we've missed something.
We can see the usual stuff on the sides, which includes the volume control keys, the standard connector, the microSD slot and a nice little hook, where we can fasten the neckband. The camera has no dedicated exposure key, which already tells us that there's no autofocus. On the bottom and top S3600 is flat, the back also lacks all kinds of extras, the only thing we should note is that it can be taken off. Great feature, eh?
As we open the phone we get to see a 2.2” display, but the 176 x 220 pixels resolution is not enough for this size. The huge keypad on the bottom is great, the labels are nice and large, the backlight is uniform and there has been space for a series of extra keys, the two keys around the navigation control take us to the calendar and the quick menu. The keyboard is still not perfect, as it's made of a single panel, it's hard to feel the pressure point, the navigation button is the one that takes the most time to get used to.
Assembly quality is great, the handset opens up to about 170 degrees, it's soft, noiseless, and although the cover is rather behemoth, it still won't wobble. Everything fits perfectly, it's good to take S3600 in the hand.
