LG KP230 - small, not nice

Interior, basic functions

The main menu has a grid view of 3 x 3 icons. Even though it's a Live! menu, it looks quite good, it has colors too. Entering one of them we can use the horizontal direction keys to switch to the previous/next submenu, so we don’t have to reenter the main menu. In order to achieve faster navigation we can use the quick menu. The phonebook can store 500 contacts that can be sorted in groups. Each contact can have an e-mail address, a mailing address, a birthday, a note and a picture assigned to it, besides the phone number. The call log can display the received/rejected/missed calls separately or on a single list. The number of SMS messages we can store is 250; MMS messages are stored on the 5 MB internal memory.

The handset has a dual-band GSM module (900/1800), WAP can be accessed through GPRS, but there is no email client or web browser. I had no problems during phone calls, voice quality was all right. The battery has a capacity of 800 mAh, but to tell the truth I haven’t been using the phone for a long time, so I can’t say much about how long it can keep the phone online.

The calendar has only month view, we can have up to 100 entries. There is also an alarm clock, a unit- and currency converter, a stopwatch, a world clock, a calculator, a notepad and a voice recorder that can make recordings of up to 10 minutes in length. There are six games installed on the phone, unfortunately all of them are only demo versions.

There are some issues with speed, most of the times we have to wait when entering menus, and waiting is also a problem when launching Java applications. The picture viewer is especially slow, there is a considerable amount of delay between entering the folder containing the photos and the thumbnails are displayed. By the way there are two types of “Please wait” screens, variety is important.
