VMware has officially announced that their virtualization technology will soon be available for mobile phones as well. The advantage of the solution based on the Trango virtual processor is that more profiles (like a business and a personal) can be run on a handset. VMware MVP is just a thin software layer that comes between the software and the hardware. The great feature of the solution is that manufacturers have to develop the operating system and the softwares for the virtual processor only once and afterwards these can be run on a different hardware without any changes. There are a number of optimizations expected before the launch of MVP, which affect speed, memory management and power consumption. Paul Maritz, head of VMware, hopes that by abstracting the software and physical layer the manufacturers will be able to create a handset faster and through virtualization many other software solutions - like more system profiles or even more operating systems - will become available.
