Scalado has announced its latest solutions for mobile phones, regarding photography without any exposure delay. Scalado Camera Solution is the first full solution from the manufacturer that includes both Scalado Camera Engine and Scalado SpeedTags. The bases of the techonogy are the manufacturer's high-speed JPEG processing algorithmsm which allow the use of full-resolution preview pictures, and thus the time between pressing the exposure key and the image being taken can be reduced to zero. During the demo Scalado used solutions from OmniVision and Texas Instruments to demonstrate their working concept, which can be accessed as a video on the manufacturer's website. When taking pictures with a mobile phone, one of the most annoying "services" is the exposure delay time, as many phones take the picture only seconds after the key is pressed, which is really uncomfortable in case of moving objects/persons. Scalado's technology, however, displays a full resolution preview picture in the viewfinder, so when pressing the shoot key the image displayed on-screen is being stored. The solution allows up to twenty full resolution preview images to be processed per second, but the handset's gallery can also be accessed much faster. Scalado's high-speed JPEG processing provides such features to phones like ultra-high speed image sequences for full resolution pictures, which has only been available on high-end compact and DSL cameras. SpeedTags IP, one of the two main components of Scalado Camera Solution, is already available on Aptina, OmniVision, Samsung and MtekVision image sensors. It is in fact a modified JPEG encoder, which allows the pre-processed pictures to be compressed fast.
