3D cameras and projectors in mobile phones

The magic of the holographic projector from Star Wars might just vanish soon, at least according to Infosys conventional cell phones will be capable of recording and sharing three dimensional images and videos by 2010, which, besides entertainment, might also help siting from a distance. The chip, being developed by Infosys, creates three dimensional holographic images from the pictures of conventional cameras, which can then be transferred at current bandwidths too. There currently are solutions for projecting 3D holograms, but those use complicated mirror systems, rotating surfaces, steam or smoke, which make their use uncomfortable. Infosys didn't reveal any details yet regarding the functions of the projector, but it might be similar to Toshiba's solution from 2005, which needs no special glasses in order to be used.
