Serious and expensive Android bug

Hirdetés

The Google Android platform is the latest operating system on the market, which has stirred up the market since it's free and has advanced multimedia capabilities. Just as in the case of all new things, one can be sure that there will be smaller or more serious problems, which will bother the first buyers, even if the fix comes soon. The platform has already had smaller issues, but even though Google's leader has seriously criticized the security mechanism of Symbian, Android isn't completely perfect either. It has recently turned out that with a really simple trick one can gain root (administrator) access on the handset, and now an even more serious, or at least more expensive, but has been unvoered by British T-Mobile. Some customers of the company had huge phone bills after travelling abroad, which has been really strange for most of them, as they have blocked data roaming before the trip. According to the official statement of T-Mobile the base software won't initiate data transfer if data roaming is blocked, but this setting has no effect on applications installed from the online Android Market cataolog. Before download the website warns the user that the given application requires internet access, but this can be blocked only if there is such a menu item in the application itself. Neither T-Mobile, nor Google has mentioned when they want to correct this serious flaw of the Android platform. Anyway it is really strange that the operating system can't control what kind of functions can a third-party application access.
