Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo CEO and Rick Simonson CFO have revealed a couple of details about this year's product strategy when disclosing the results for 2008. The Finnish giant plans to further increase the market of Symbian Series 60 phones, which means a serious development in services offered and an entry to the lower price segments. This year Nokia will invest more in the development of Series 60 models than in the classical Series 40 phones, but OVI services will also be improved. The CEO has emphasized that some smartphones had much higher sales than planned, which is an evident sign of the development having a good direction and when mentioning 5800 XpressMusic he has also told that a smartphone doesn't necessarily have to be expensive. Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo has also emphasized that launching cheaper phone is not only a question of money, but due to the different types of users, different kinds of services and new product categories are required. Rick Simonson has told that Nokia 5800 is only the tip of the iceberg, as this year Nokia smartphones will be changed radically. Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo has revealed that the hardware is not enough to be successful, as outstanding services and a proper harmony is required, and so the concept of smartphones can be redefined. This means that Nokia will expand to a lower price category and with redefined services, which is an important step against RIM and Windows Mobile (who are strong in business offers), the high-end Apple iPhone and Google Android solutions, which want to expand to many areas of the market.
