We have already reported about Nokia's contactless control patent before, and now new information has been revealed. The special solution from the Finnish manufacturer is based on cameras or other sensors near the phone's screen, which recognize the human finger motion, thus a kind of contactless "multitouch" system is created. In order to accomplish functions there is no need to touch the display, it's enough to do the motions close enough to the screen. In order to move a menu item or an on-screen element for example it could be enought to move our hand close to the screen than "pick up" the content we want to move, then let it go above the desired target location. Alastair Curtis, Nokia's lead designer says that the patented solution doesn't only exist on paper, but they are working hard on a real-life implementation. It is not yet known, however, when will the contactless control system be available or in what kind of phone.
