The financial quarter, closed on March 31, is again very successful. The company's net income has increased with 28%, compared to the same period last year, to 12.66 billion euros, of which the net profit is 1222 million euro. Although the net operating profit has increased with 39% compared to last year, but the company had such one-time expenses, which are partially connected to the operation of Nokia Siemens Networks. The Finnish manufacturer has sold 115.5 million cell phones in the first three months of the year, which is a 27% increase, but it's also a 13% decrease compared to the very strong results from the end of last year. This also means that the company's market share has dropped from last year's 40% to 39%, but it's still 3% more than in the same period last year.
A reason to the smaller profit is that the device ASP (Average Selling Price) has dropped from 83 euro to €79. Even in spite of this smaller decrease, the company didn't modify its predictions for 2008. According to Nokia's estimations, the market of cell phones is expected to increase with 10% this year, meaning that the manufacturers are to sell 1.14 billion devices in total over the world. The company's leadership is not so optimistic, however, about financial indicators. The low performance of the dollar and the American market are expected to have an effect on the company's European financial results too, and a further decrease in sales price is also expected, due to the heavy competition. It also turns out from Nokia's report, that the market share of Nokia Siemens Networks on the market of network devices is not expected to change during the course of the year.
