Instead of the previously announced giga-mega update, the new Nokia 5800 firmware only patches some small bugs and it can currently be applied only from the phone's menu. The 4 MB update doesn't contain the kinetic scrolling routine, it doesn't have the widget-based user interface we've seen on Nokia N97 or the scrolling contact list with 20 contacts from 5530. Another unpleasant thing is that the v30.0.011 software still can't automatically switch between the classic and the QWERTY keyboard when rotating the phone, so the larger version number change doesn't mean big updates at all. Before starting the installation it's advised to create a backup copy of the phone's memory, which can be done with the PC or Ovi Suite, or directly with the file manager from the phone's menu.
