Nav N Go has announced at a press conference yesterday the commercially available version of their latest navigation software: Nav N Go iGO8 is set to launch in April 28. The application has a new, unified name across Europe, comes in a new package and includes detailed maps of 43 European countries at an estimated price of 160 EUR. The box contains a 2 GB microSD memory card, a miniSD- and an SD-adapter, a user manual and a DVD that contains all tools necessary for later update.
The new version has two types of menu systems, per user request. Beginner users should choose "Normal mode", that offers all basic functions, while more advanced users find much more settings in "Pro mode". “When developing the new product, one of our priorities was to provide users with an easy to use, Plug and Go program, similar to the former iGO My way, which was so popular with so many people,” said András Fazakas, Nav N Go’s Chief Operating Officer. “Installing and managing Nav N Go iGO 8 is also simple; and at the same time, it contains a range of fine tuning possibilities that advanced navigators will appreciate most.”

New dimension
As development has gone quite long (we might remember: it has been announced more than a year ago), we had the chance of referring to one of the main new features, 3D view: the software is capable of not only drawing terrain in 3D, but buildings are also displayed in a similar manner. On your navigation screen you will recognize plenty of famous landmarks, such as the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben and the Colosseum.

The 3D graphics require relatively strong hardware, so minimum system requirements include a 300 MHz CPU (400 MHz recommended) and 64 MB of free memory (128 MB recommended). Senior adviser Zoltán Molnos has mentioned that the program runs with less memory too, but graphics display might become choppy.
This version of the software also has support for TMC-t (Traffic Message Chanel) and if this traffic information service becomes more wide-spread than devices with the appropriate FM receiver will be capable of getting live information about traffic jams, stationary speedometers and cameras signaling illegal crossings. Nav N Go iGO 8 brings about many new features in POI management too. The user can save its own interesting spots besides the 8 million points of interests already included in the database, and these can be shared through the Internet. The POI database can now be searched along the planned route too, so passing through an intermediary objective does not necessarily require changing the optimal route.
Early upgrade, but not for everyone
Nav N Go makes updating to iGO 8 available for iGO My way users available in a few days, before the new version's launch. Upgrading will only be available through the Internet at the my.navngo.com address. The new version can be downloaded for free by those customers who have bought their copy of the iGO My way 2006 software with full Europe map in 2008. Those who have purchased the software earlier, will have to pay 89 euros for the update. As the complete new version won't fit on the old version's 1 GB memory card, those choosing this upgrade method can copy important maps on their card with the supplied Content Manager application.
iGO My way 2006 versions with an Eastern-Europe map are excluded from the update promotion due to the even smaller memory card, but those using such an edition will have map updates for their software. The same map update can be performed by those customers who have a PDA technically incapable of running 3D applications and by those who would not like to change to the new software version.
