Sony Ericsson, sticking to its habits, didn't announce its new products during or at the Mobile World Congress, but a day before the opening.
Those eager to get to the press event at Opium Theater have stood in line not only in the theater's street, but also over the corner: it has been visible that many would have liked to be the first to know what's going on about the Japanese-Swedish manufacturer.

After getting in we were happy to ovserve that this year the organizers have provided a much larger place for the attendants, so everyone had some place to stand at.

On the canvas at the back of the stage there has been a huge countdown timer telling the people the time remaining until the great moment. When the counter reached zero, Steve Walker, head of portfolio management and Lennard Hoornik, head of marketing have appeared onstage and announced the following phones:

Sony Ericsson W995
The handset is the latest member of the Walkman series. It's a slider and its size is 97 x 49 x 15 mm. The handset, weighing 115 grams, will be available in black, silver and red colors. Its 2.6" TFT display is resistant to scratches, has a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and a color depth of 262 thousand colors.
SE W995
As it's a member of the Walkman series, it has all the features of previous handsets. Besides this the manufacturer has decided that they won't limit photographic features to the Cyber-shot series and thus they have used an 8.1 megapixel autofocus camera. The phone supports WiFi and DLNA too, and it sports aGPS, so there will be no problems running Google Maps on it.
SE W995
It has quad-band GSM and dual-band HSDPA support, and it has 270 hours standby time and 9 hours of talk time. We can play back music for up to 20 hours with a single charge. Sony Ericsson W995 will be available as of 2009 Q2.
Sony Ericsson Idou
The new model, temporarlily named Idou, has been intended to be the big hit of the night. The new handset is the first phone from Sony Ericsson to run the Symbian S60 Touch OS, and according to the promises it will be followed by other handset in the summer.
SE Idou
As this is a non-existant model, the full specs have not been revealed, except one thing: Idou will feature a 12 megapixel camera.
Altogether Sony Ericsson has preceded Samsung, who is expected to announce a phone with a similar camera, although it's highly probable that by the time that Idou is to be launched, expectedly in Q3 2009, the Korean manufacturer will have launched its handset.
SE Idou
Unfortunately we didn't get to see a working model, just like in the case of Xperia X1 last year, we have seen the phone in a glass cage.
This has been the end of the press conference and probably we haven't been the only ones to feel that this hasn't been much from Sony Ericsson. The Swedish might have some hard times ahead if that's all they had to show.
