NFC (Near Field Communication - short range radio transfer) technology, that recently became an ETSI standard, was an important step in mobile payment solutions, which help banks, network providers and device manufacturers to create their payment services together. Kyocera announced its mobile banking payment solutions for CDMA networks at CTIA Wireless 2008. For the demonstartion a modified Kyocera Tempo E2000 handset was used, that had an NFC chip in it, made by NXP Semiconductors, and had a BREW-based software running on it, made by ViVOtech. The device, capable of bimoetric identification, offers a simple, fast and secure alternative for payments and we don't even have to touch the pay terminal with the phone. The technology, being in its very early phases, can become extremely wide-spread soon, as both banks and the mobile industry consider NFC-based soultions as a serious opportunity.
