Steve Jobs has officially announced the iPhone 2.0 software, which brings lots of new features for phones. One of the most important of these is that the handset's operating system us now officially open for external applications, and there are a number of new languages and comfort features available, for example document handling. From now on saving images attached to mails will be no problem and there is a new feature: Chinese handwriting recognition. The firmware, coming in July, will be free to download for owners of Apple iPhone, while owners of iPod Touch can download it for $9.95 USD instead of the previous 19.95 USD price. Besides this, AT&T and Apple have announced that they abandon the use of the profit-sharing model, so network operators won't have to pay monthly to Apple from now on, which might results in cheaper subscription rates. Apple has also decided to decrease the price of their handsets, so in the future the demand will probably be much higher. iPhone 3G 8GB will be available for $199 USD at AT&T, which comes with a $39.99 USD monthly subscription fee and an optional unlimited data package for $30 USD.
