A phone's network-independent price is of course not even close to the parts, development and other costs. Anyone can find this out by looking at the manufacturers' quarterly reports of their huge profits. But of course many of us are interested about a device's manufacturing price. Well, if we sum up the Asian parts manufacturer's prices, then the parts cost is somewhere around $100 USD, and of course we have to add some development, marketing, assembly and other logistics prices. So the phone's total cost is around $173 USD. In some countries Apple's new phone will cost even less. For example in Germany T-Mobile sells the smaller iPhone 3G model for €1 EUR, the costs being payed through the monthly subscription fee. This low price is of course a perfect path to success. According to the analysis of Morgan Stanley, 27 million iPhones are expected to be sold in 2009, but the magical 10 million milestone is expected to be crossed by the end of this year.
