Ericsson starts cutbacks in Sweden

Telecom equipment maker Ericsson said on Tuesday it would cut 290 staff in Sweden as part of previously announced cost reductions.

Ericsson, the world's biggest mobile network maker, said it started talks with unions at its Kumla and Sundsvall operations. It added it had offered voluntary redundancies to Swedish staff in Gavle, Boras and to some in Stockholm. The plant in Sundsvall has 90 employees, this factory is being closed down completely, its tasks are taken over by the factory in Montreal, Canada. The other 200 employees are taken off from the Kumla plant.

Ericsson said in February it would cut around 4,000 jobs with around 1,000 of those in its home market.
