BenQ thinks that the key to the future are evidently Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs), so it is possible that they will completely abandon the handset industry. These infos have not yet been confirmed by BenQ, but they have announced that the company will focus more and more on internet tablets in the future. The company has shipped 40% more cell phones in last quarter than in th previous three months, half of these have 3G support. The slim BenQ E55 with a lower price and 3G supported is expected to arrive in July. After abandoning the Chinese market it however seems that BenQ might retreat completely, at least in terms of cell phone production, as their quantity doesn't reach a level that could provide profit and even more there is a decreasing number of developers, as BenQ has relocated a large number of employees to previous partners. The market of Intel Atom-based MIDs provides serious opportunities, as the demand for cheap devices is heavily increasing. The first variants of these portable devices that have a larger screen than cell phones and run a conventional PC operating system are expected to be launched soon.
