Sony Ericsson smartphones have always had Symbian operating system and UIQ interface, which never became as popular as Nokia's Series 60. XPERIA X1, announced in February, is a milestone in the company's life, as instead of Symbian it's based on Windows Mobile 6.1, which finally replaces previous slow CPUs. The 528 MHz Qualcomm CPU, 256 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM, 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, aGPS, 7.2 megabit HSPA support, WLAN, 3" touchscreen with 800 x 480 pixels resoltuion, QWERTY keyboard, 1500 mAh battery and the 10 hours of talk time on GSM networks all sound good and the Japanese-Swedish phone was a real hit with unmatched features when it was announced. But since then five months have passed and such competitors have appeared like HTC Touch Pro, which will probably be launched earlier and at a lower price than Sony Ericsson's flagship. It looks like XPERIA X1 won't be available before November, as that's when it's expected to be launched at the English 3 ("Three") network operator.
