"Design and the Elastic Mind". This is the name of the exhibition where Nokia and Cambridge University have presented their nanotechnology concept device, Morph. The concept phone is on view from 24 February to 12 May 2008, at The Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Morph is a concept that demonstrates how future mobile devices might be stretchable and flexible, allowing the user to transform their mobile device into radically different shapes. Morph might become a bracelet, a necklace (a tassle in the tip of slippers?), or a conventional mobile phone.
It demonstrates the ultimate functionality that nanotechnology might be capable of delivering: flexible materials, transparent electronics and even self-cleaning surfaces.
Elements of Morph might be available to integrate into handheld devices within 7 years, though initially only at the high-end, so Morph may be more than just fiction.
