Although analysts say that the market of smartphones is continuously expanding, Nokia is having a hard time competing with the highly acclaimed Apple iPhone, T-Mobile G1 and BlackBerry Storm or HTC Touch Pro, a sign being Symbian's decreasing market share. The Finnish manufacturer tries to retake the market with a well though-out and tried strategy, the aid being the cheaper models. Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, CEO of Nokia has confirmed for Swedish Dagens Nyheterin that they are preparing for the launch of cheaper smartphones. Although Eseries and Nseries top models can get serious media coverage, the highest profits are due to the mid-range and its balanced sales. The touchscreen Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and Eseries E71 with its QWERTY keyboard have sales of about one million per month, which shows that smartphones with a lower price have a serious potential. According to Mobile-Review there will be two cheap touchscreen models launched this summer, but besides that we should expect an increasing number of classical phones as well. This year's flagship model will probably remain N97, which might be swapped out next year with a Linux-based Eseries communicator.
