Nokia had a weak quarter

Hirdetés

World's largest manufacturer, Nokia, has officially reported about their third quarter results (July-September), which was undoubtedly by far not their best quarter. The Finnish manufacturer has shipped 117.8 million cell phones in the third quarter, which is a 5 percent increase compared to the same period last year, but a 3% drop compared to the previous quarter. At the same time the gross sale price per handset has decreased from €74 EUR to €72 euros. The whole Nokia group had a total turnover of 12.2 billion euros, which is a 5 percent drop compared to the same period in 2007 and a 7 percent drop compared to the previous quarter. The decreasing sales mean of course a decreasing market share too. While in Q3 2008 the manufacturer had a share of 39% and 40 in Q2, they now only have a market share of 38 percent.

The net revenue of the company group has decreased from last year's 1.862 bil. euros to 1.469 bil. euros, which is not much different from the 1.474 bil. euros achieved in the previous quarter. Still, the Finnish giant is optimistic. They have sold 15.5 million smartphones in only three months, 9 million of these being Nseries and 3 million were Eseries models, moreover, thanks to increased effectivenes of the company, the gross profit has been increased to 36.5 percent, compared to the 36.1 percent from last quarter. In this year's last quarter they are launching many new models, like the widely accessible Nokia 3610 Fold, the luxury-phone Nokia 8800 Carbon Arter, or N79 and N85, mad for tech geeks. The first Series 60 Touch smartphone from Nokia, the very low-priced Nokia 5800 XpressMusic won't be available in the Christmas season, only in Q1 2009.
