The free computer application that lets us explore most of the internal contents of Sony Ericsson handsets, MyPhoneExplorer, has been a great success since the first edition has been launched and now version 1.7 is available. We can sync the handsets via a USB cable, an infrared port or Bluetooth. MyPhoneExplorer can direcly sync with Outlook, Outlook Express, Lotus Notes and Thunderbird address books and Outlook, Sunbird, Thunderbird, Rainlendar, Lotus notes and web-shared (WebDAV, FTP, local) calendars. Browsing the phones' files systems has also been enhanced by introducing temproray storage (cahce) and now SMS chat is also supported besides SMS archiving, sending and receiving. Another useful feature is the editing of profiles, notes and calendar entries, in which case we can even define exceptions for repetition.
The application is compatible with almost every Sony Ericsson model, although some cheaper handsets (eg. T200i) don't have a computer interface. After connecting an appropriate phone the clock is automatically sinced to the atom clock. We can use Symbian UIQ phones unly via a USB connection and we first have to install the Sony Ericsson software package that came with the handset. Besides the bugfixes and the support for UIQ 3 handsets support (P990i, P1i, M600i, W950i, W960i, G700, G900) a new feature is "Offline backup" which can create a backup from cache without the handset being connected. The free application can be downloaded from this link.
