Alcatel announced its first USB modem named X020. As it was mentioned at the press conference, they have the experience and technology to deliver a device like this to the market although it's their first stuff that braves to try using HSDPA.
However, if it's prooved to be good, the manufacturer will develope further devices into this segment of the market. It surely can be a hit if the manufacturer can hold the prices that are typical of it. The X020 can only use 3.6 Mbit/s networks but weighs only 50 gramms. It can be installed to computers naturally by plug&play method as the competiting products. It's going to be available in two colours in the first quarter of the year.
