According to market analysts LG might soon surpass Motorola too, but in order to strengthen their position it's not enough to perform well in the upper segment. According to market sources one of LG's forwarders, Arima, has been assigned to ship 12 different 2.5G (GPRS) handsets in 2009, the total number being 10 million pieces. The assignment is not only about phones in the lowest segment, but they will be making mid-range phones too for LG. Infineon might also profit from this assignment, as Arima's phones are usually based on solutions from this company. Arima currently manufactures four models for LG, this means about four million pieces. Besides this they of course fulfill orders for other manufacturers too, for example Sony Ericsson T303 is made by them too. Arima will probably achieve 15 million pieces this year, which might increase a lot next year, thanks to the contract with LG.
