Google and Tele Atlas have announced a long-term cooperation agreement between the two companies, enabling Google to use the map of Tele Atlas that includes 200 countries, along with the dynamic databank. The agreement affects all online services of Google, including Google Maps and Google Earth used on computers and the Google Maps for Mobile cell phone solution. Based on the agreement Tele Atlas opens up its database for the Google community for editing, thus providing a possibility to create the best quality and most complete map database. One of the major disadvantages of Google Maps for Mobile is that a mobile data package subscrption is required to use it, which makes it practically unusable abroad, due to the high data roaming fees. The two companies didn't mention offline availablility of the maps yet.
