Possibly the word Heretic takes brings up nice memories in a lot of you. We are talking about an FPS game, built on the Doom engine, that appeared in 1994 and it hat a 3D-accelerated version too, GLHeretic.
One of the program's fans, Michael Ryssen, decided to take advantage of the possibilities offered by DoomGL and ports the classic game to Pocket PC. It seems that his efforts resulted in a success, as the programs 0.5b version (which is still a a beta) can be downloaded for free from the developer's homepage. He states that all features from the original version are available in the Pocket PC version - expect the multiplayer, which, however, can also be implemented thanks to DoomGL. There is a detailed tutorial about this on the site linked just before. The only problem is that HereticGLES starts up only on devices outfitted with an Intel 2700G accelerator chip, thus practically only the owners of a Dell Axim X50v/X51v (upgraded to WM 5) can practice their skills of extincting undead hordes.
Main software features:
  • Native VGA resolution support
  • Free look
  • Bilinear filtering and mipmapping
  • Dynamic lighting (multitextured lightmaps)
