During the evaluation of Q1 financial results, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, CEO of Nokia, has officially confimed the coming of cheaper touchscreen models. When asked about high-end models, the leader answered that his company will of course have to be competitive in the higher price range as well, but the greatest profit is generated by the mid-range and the aim of Nokia is to make smartphones an accessbile product. According to the estimations of the Finnish manufacturer, Nokia 5800 amounts to 20% of the touchscreen mobile market, and it will soon be followed by a couple of really interesting products. Of course it has already been an open secret that Nokia is planning to launch new touchscreen handsets this year, but the fact that Kallasvuo promotes them so openly means that an official announcement is coming soon.
