It was yesterday's news that iGO runs on Apple's wonder phone. As we didn't get any press info on this, we returned today to Nav N Go's stand, from where we were transferred to a small company, their name is Gomite.
Gomite has a simply brilliant idea: they have created a small device, which is nothing else than a WLAN hotspot and a GPS receiver, and this is what the iPhone connects to through Safari web browser and displays the iGO interface in it. The greatest thing in this is, that however the big news is that iPhone and iGO are together, but from now on all devices with WLAN support is capable of running iGO on it.
The question is, that what kind of costs appear. Gomite's gadget appears in the summer, at a price of 100 EUR. Additionally we have to buy iGO 8, and that's it. The miniature device functions for 16-20 hours with one charge, after that it can be charged to the miniUSB connector. Updates are also applied through WLAN: there is a small admin interface, that can be used to download updates from the net.
From now on it is evident that with a one-time investment even a Symbian-based Nokia or Sony Ericsson can be made capable of using iGO. It's a clever solution, Gomite is very optimistic about the future. They have all the background they need.
