ARM's two new processors promise a real breakthrough for games and 3D applications on mobile phones. Remi Pedersen, leader of the company's graphics department, says that the Mali-200 and Mali-400 processors have OpenGL ES 2.0 support and can render up to 16 million triangles or 275 million pixels per second, thus being very eye-catching. The second model doesn't have one, but four 3D cores which can be activated separately, and their frequency can be scaled between 100 and 300 MHz, thus they can produce full HD, 1080p resolution material, while running on a lower frequency a single core can provide a long uptime. On the occasion of the Game Developers' Conference in San Francisco Pederson has demonstrated the capabilities of the platform with the Xbox version of Gotham Racer, the graphics being similar to the one of the Xbox 360 version, while the performance has been similar to the first Xbox's. According to Remi Pedersen a mobile phone with such 3D capabilities will be available this winter at a subscription price as low as 100 dollars.
