The announcement of Windows Mobile 6.5 has been a serious disappointment for all those who have been expecting the much rumored and completely rewritten new version that could even be as usable as Apple's OS. This version is indeed in the making, but the upcoming edition is just a modified version of Windows Mobile 6.1, bringing a better standby screen, a more advanced browser and organizer, even though the basic concept remained unchanged. Windows Mobile 6.5 (build 23022), pictured below, received a number of additional smaller fixes, for example it now has larger, easier to use virtual keys and a virtual magnifier that can be used for editing text. Microsoft is working hard on refining the operating system, but the real breakthrough is expected only next year, when Windows Mobile 7 or Windows Phone 7 is set to be announced.
