It looks like Bluetooth might get a serious challenger in the near future, as the solution form Ozmo and Intel is intended for the same segment of market which is currently dominated by Bluetooth technology. At this year's Computex expo Intel and Ozmo have announced their WiFi PAN (Personal Area Network) solution, which is specially made for low power-consumption devices. Thanks to this technology low-consumption devices, similar to Bluetooth-based ones, like headsets, mice and other devices can be created, which then can easily connect to WiFi PAN laptops or phones. The greatest advantage of the solution, however, is that there is no need for a separate Bluetooth controller, which there is one less component needed, so there is one less factor that consumes energy. It is not yet known when the first WiFi PAN devices are to be launched, but Belkin is already testing the possibilities of this technology.
