Symbian's results for 2007 have arrived, showing that last year a total of 77.3 million Symbian-based phones have been sold. This means a 53% growth compared to the preceding year, which is not a very surprising value on the market of smartphones, as devices with an operating system are cutting a bigger and bigger slice from mobile communication.
Yesterday Microsoft announced a 100% growth, but as they still own a much smaller part from the smartphone market, Symbian is still considered the leader. Symbian currently has relations with eight phone manufacturers, the phones of them are available at 250 network operators all over the world.
The number of applications written for the Symbian platform has grown too, at the end of last year there were 8736 software available officially, which is 27% more than the year before. Since its creation, 188 million Symbian-based phones were sold: this is the total result of seven years.
