The usability of handsets equipped only with a touchscreen is highly influenced by the services offered by the software. Typing is made harder not only by the flat display, but also by the fact that when typing, most of the screen is taken up by the virtual keyboard, thus overlapping the edited text. Besides typing, a clipboard is also a great feature of smartphones, which is used for copying texts (and in some cases other objects as well) between applications. The picture and video below show that the new software, coming soon for the BlackBerry Storm, will feature a completely new method of selecting text: there is a selection box that can be resized by pulling its edges. The solution seems to be a good one since in the case of most phones selecting texts written with small fonts is sometimes a near-impossible task.
