At the press event of the Japanese-Swedish manufacturer we have tested the first F, Fun series phone, F305, we've been asking around a bit about why is it revolutionary. Since we are quite cynic, after knowing the answers, we're not afraid to write: for no reasons, it's not revolutionary.
I am not a huge gamer, but I have clear ideas about why a game is good, and what kind of parameters should a gaming device have. F305 is unfortunately quite far from my ideas: it has no 3D accelerator chip, its display has a diagonal of only 2", a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels, and so that's bye-bye for the astonishing graphics. The only trump card of the phone is that it has a motion sensor, which should be exploited by game developers, in the opinion of Sony Ericsson. Besides this it practically doesn't differ at all from the three year old K750i, it can run the same kind of Java games in the same manner - okay, this is not completely true, as it has its d-pad designed specifically for controlling games and there are two dedicated action keys on it. Besides these there are no extras, so we have Java games, we can go fishing or bowling comfortably , with the help of the sensors, we just have to pay attention not to throw away the phone, as on the ad it was fastened to the guy's wrist, probably as a security measure. Unfortunately we couldn't roll with the sample, but we could go fishing, where I had pretty bad results, but one of the guys from the manufacturer has caught a 3 kg fish and we were both happy. The phone, that is not at all innovative in my opinion, will be available for €165 EUR (SIM-free), expectedly at the beginning of Q4 - I hope that the final version will have much more fun games, or it won't have a chance, at least not at me.
