The owner of Sagem Mobile, French SAFRAN group, have decided to sell the cell phone department that showed a deficit. The new division, owned by Sofinnova, will be called Sagem Wireless from now on, the SAFRAN group acting only as an investor. The change also included the acqusition of Sagem Mobile's software division by Purple Labs. Purple Labs and Sagem Wireless have signed a many years long cooperation agreement, which includes Purple Labs developing the 3G handsets' Linux-based software, according to the prescriptions of LiMo Foundation. Sagem phones have been launched not only under their own brand, but also under names like Sony Ericsson, Orange or Vodafone, and this change will probably not affect these previous cooperations.
