Manufacturer of BlackBerry models, RIM, is working on a kind of new SureType keyboard that can be built in slimmer handsets as well. The idea is very simple: the two side-columns of a basic 12-key GSM keypad can be collapsible, and thus a 20-key SureType keypad can be made as well. The solution is very innovative, but it doesn't have much practical use, as there is no chance of building stable wings, not mentioning that the center column would be too deep when the side ones are closed, or it would be too high when opened. This means that the officially registered patent has more like a theoretical importance, as it would be physically impossible to make it usable.
