Samsung has always been a leader in thin phones. Such record phones are made by them like the 5.9 mm thick U100 with a 3 megapixel camera, or the Samsung G810 smartphone, equipped with 5 cameras, capable of 3X optical zoom and all this in a case with a thickness of 17.9 mm. The new camera module is not capable of optical zoom, but it's still a world record, as its size is 28 x 15.3 x 8.5 mm, and has an 8 Mpix autofocus camera, which is not only 10% more compact than other solutions, but has such features like ISO 1600 support, picture stabilizer, face recognition and super-close picture taking, from a distance of 1 cm. The new camera is expected to be released before September and according to the manufacturer a phone thinner than 9 mm can be built on it.
