Toshiba's PDA-phones have always been different than the ones of the rivals'. A great example for this is their handset codenamed TG01, so we have taken it in our hands in Barcelona.
- Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operating system, Toshiba Touch Interface
- 129 x 70 x 9.9 mm, 129 grams
- Quad-band GSM-modul (850/900/1800/1900 MHz), GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA (7.2 Mbps), HSUPA (2 Mbps)
- 4.1" diagonal WVGA touchscreen (800 x 480 pixels)
- 3.2 megapixel, autofocus camera
- 1 GHz Qualcomm QSD8250 CPU
- 512 MB ROM, 265 MB RAM, microSD support
- Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, 802.11b/g WiFi, microUSB connector, GPS
- 1000 mAh battery
Let's observe a couple of things: the only 9.9 mm thick handset is 129 mm long, so it looks like a huge frying pan. This is not the point, but the processor, as this is the first of the devices for the European market that has a 1 GHz CPU. It's also interesting that it features a 4.1" WVGA display.
To start with we'd like to note that the handset is coming only by September to our region, so the one we had in our hands is just a prototype. As a matter of fact this has been visible, it has been darn slow, it didn't react to lots of touches even though I had quite a lot of touchscreen devices in my hand. I didn't really like the touch interface of Toshiba very much either, the icons are small in spite of the large display, the layout is a bit illogical, but at least it can be customized.
