Motorola officially announced today that it will split their Mobile Devices business into an independent, publicly traded business. The as yet un-named Motorola Mobile Devices company will take the mobile and accessories business, leaving the Broadband and Mobility Solutions business which deals with network infrastructure, set top boxes, wireless access systems, VOIP and cellular networks.

Motorola hopes that the change will make let the separate mobile device company focus more on new handsets and retake its currently lost fame of the brand. Although there have been gossips previously stating that Motorola is planning to leave mobile business completely, but this statement seems to disprove the rumors, although it's true that such a separated, stand-alone company can be sold easier in the future, if needed.
