The next Palm Treo smartphone, namely Treo 800w, will probably be announced in July, and will be available only on CDMA networks at first. The CDMA and high-speed EVDO device, designed for Sprint, is based on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, and has a 333 MHz Texas Instruments CPU as its core. Besides the conventional microSD connector there is no standard headset output, and due to its 2 megapixel camera, the QWERTY smartphone still cannot be considered a multimedia monster. The 320 x 320 pixels large touchscreen with 65 thousand colors can automatically set the backlight strength, but the keyboard's backlight is also set depending on the strength of environmental lighting. WLAN (802.11 b/g), infrared (IrDA 1.2) and stereo Bluetooth 2.0+EDR are however quite pleasant. The 112 x 58 x 18.5 mm large handset, weighing 140 grams, will probably have a European edition available later on.
