Typing and text entry in general is unfortunately still not a simple task, as the lack of conventional keys and tangible edges, along with the sometimes too sensitive display are not ideal for typing longer texts. The latest patent from Apple combines some parts of a virtual QWERTY keyboard and handwriting recognition in order to make typing more comfortable. In order to delete a letter we won't have to look for the clear key, as we will just have to pull our finger from right to left, while typing a space requires a left->right stroke and in order to insert a new line we have to pull our finger down. Apple's idea supports the entry of other formatting signs, so formatting and editing could become simpler on touchscreen phones as well.
