Access announced the latest, v3.0, edition of the Access Linux Platform (ALP) in Tokyo, but only few technical details have been uncovered. It is sure, however, that user interface, featuring highly advanced visual effects, offers LiMo compatibility. Besides the full Linux solutions the ALP mini system has been announced as well, which proves to be a good alternative choice for low-end smartphones, internet tablets and navigation devices. ALP mini doesn't support native Linux or Palm OS Garnet applications. According to the announcement from Access, ALP is based on China MobileSoft Linux, which has been acquired by PalmSource in December 2004. The base system is enhanced with the proprietary NetFront browser from Access, a Java and widget framework, a number of other components and an appropriate developer kit. The ALP mini framework is already available, but ALP 3.0 has not been launched yet. The company has confirmed that Japanese NTT DoCoMo announced ALP 3.0-based models in the second half of 2009 and they have also pointed out that the recently announced Edelweiss is also based on ALP.
