At the „2nd Skin: Imaginative Designs in Digital & Analog Clothing” fashion show in San Francisco, the dress called "Piezing" (designed by Amanda Parkes) has been announced, which is interesting mostly for its technological features. This dress is no ordinary piece of clothing. Around the elbow and the waist there are piezoelectric fibers in the material, which get bended due to the natural motion of the body and thanks to the piezoelectric effect they can generate electric energy. The energy is stored in a battery for later use. The idea is not from Amanda Parkes, but from professor Zhong Lin Wang, who has previously described the idea of nanogenerator threads as the building blocks of clothes in the future.
