Samsung and Intrinisty have announced the world's fastest ARM Cortex-A8 Hummingbird CPU. The new chip is made with 45 nanometer technology and with its clock speed of 1 GHz it can make up to two billion operations. According to the South-Korean manufacturer the processor, twice as fast as the CPU of iPhone 3G S, is not just fast, but it also consumes very little energy, as it needs only a single volt of energy, even at high clock speeds.
The detailed specs of the new chip are not yet known, but since Samsung i8910, based on Symbian Series 60, can decode and record 720p HD videos with its older 600 MHz processor, we might think that the new edition can handle even full HD (1080p) videos as well.
